A red rose represents love. A red ribbon represents HIV or AIDS prevention project. Red color can also represent danger, such as the red light of traffic light. Somehow or other, what is the meaning of red colour in Chinese culture? There are some examples.
Red is a lucky color in Chinese culture, representing good luck for Chinese. Thus, we can see that many Chinese families stick red paper on the door of their house. It is because they want to use the “power” of red color to get rid of evil and bad luck. For getting rid of evil, we can also see that many temples and olden palaces are decorated with red colour materials. Life long felicity can also be represented by red colour, so that wedding clothes like cheongsam are made with using red drapery.
In conclusion, red colour has special meaning in Chinese culture but it still belongs to all people.
